I remember seeing sandokhan miniseries on spanish tv in late 70s when i was a kid. although i'd like to watch them again, i rememebr i was on his side and always wanted him to beat his adversaries ... now me being older, im sure i'd find it interesting in a deeper level, both historically (even if he's a fictional character, but based on colonial history (fuck-ups/oppression) ) and the way it was filmed and researched. maybe on ebay i could find some vhs tapes or even dvds of the original series.

also, mr elijah, i find you did a very well written and descriptive synopsis of the book and about your thoughts about this famous pirate hero. congrats! - mikemorenobcn@yaho.com - delaware

Wow, that's really cool. Old editions of adventure classics coming every month on a library-van: that sounds like a recipe for the perfect nostalgia!

I grew up reading Portuguese translations of Sandokan and the Black Corsair (and also Alexandre Dumas, Jules Verne, etc). They were very popular in Portugal, especially for the generations before mine. I read old editions in an itinerant library-van from Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation which came to my town once a month.
