What Is Better Than a Monkey With a Gun?

Nothing, that’s what.
Hello everybody, sorry I’ve been away so long, but midterms are over so perhaps I’ll be able to find a bit of time to do some fun reading, and then write about said reading. However, while I don’t have time at this moment to go on at too great a length in a review of any sort, I can tell you all about something very wonderful that I’ve just discovered:
Astonishing Adventures Magazine. Essentially, someone has decided to take the old school pulp magazine format (as well as much of the fun, old school pulp stylistic approach and subject matter) and release a new magazine as a free PDF. Unfortunately, I haven’t yet found the time to read their first issue, but it looks promising, and I plan to do so soon. Since I haven’t read it, I’ll leave the explanation of what their whole deal is to the fine editorial staff of Astonishing Adventures! To wit:
It’s amazing! It’s stupendous! It’s ASTONISHING!
ASTONISHING ADVENTURES MAGAZINE, the greatest place for new tales in the old pulp fashion, has finally arrived!
Marvel at the tale of the man who married a Yeti! Thrill to the exploits of the mysterious Red Panda! Gasp in amazement as dinosaurs attack Manhattan! Be astounded as Tokyo is reduced to rubble (yet again)!
All this and more, including interviews with award-winning writer Joe Lansdale, legendary comics artist Michael Wm. Kaluta, and painter extraordinaire Doug Klauba!
Did we mention the monkeys? Yes, there are monkeys! More monkeys than you can shake a banana at!
Brace yourself for tales that are ASTONISHING! Prepare yourself for ADVENTURES! All conveniently located in one pulp MAGAZINE!
That’s ASTONISHING ADVENTURES MAGAZINE!
And best of all, the first issue is free!
Sounds good to me. I’ll let you all know what I think once I’ve read the thing… but honestly, even if the first issue ends up being a bit shaky, I’m so happy with what they’re doing that I probably won’t be able to be very down on them. Heck, maybe I’ll try submitting a story myself. Couldn’t hurt.
(Real posts coming again soon, I swear!)
