A little under two years ago I bought a magical little tome for a mere two dollars, purely on the strength of its cover. It seemed to be just about the most cliche sci-fi cover in the history of ever: a ship, ray guns, the title Invaders From Rigel, and to top it off, actual green men.
I turned over this wonderful little book and read the back. With the most ridiculous bombast I learned that the main character woke up one morning to find that he had… TURNED TO METAL!
Sooooo worth two bucks. In the end, I think it was the alien who was victoriously carrying a flag that won me over.
Eventually I actually tried to read the thing. It’s a very short book, but I still couldn’t get through the first third. It’s horrible. And not even bad in a fun enough way to sustain itself, I think the book is actually meant to be funny to some extent–and failed humor seldom works as unintentional humor.
Nonetheless, a cover worth having, and worth showing off. I wish I could find a bigger picture of it online (I don’t have a scanner) but regrettably, that’s the best I can do.
Unrelated Side Note: I have now added a “Reviews” category, for those who have no desire to wade through piddling little nothings like the bulk of this post, and only want my exhaustive, in-depth looks at books, movies, etc. Enjoy!
